Our review

The Kasa Smart Plug Mini is the easiest entry point to smart home automation. Plug it into a wall outlet, download the Kasa app, connect to your 2.4GHz WiFi, and any device plugged into it becomes voice-controlled and app-controlled. No hub required.

Works with Alexa and Google Home for voice control. The Kasa app offers scheduling (lamp on at sunset, off at midnight), countdown timers (auto-off after 30 minutes), group control (turn off all living room devices at once), and away mode (randomly toggle devices to simulate occupancy while you are on holiday).

The ultra-compact design is a genuine advantage — it is small enough that it does not block the second outlet on a standard wall plate. The 15A/1800W rating handles most household devices. UL certified for safety with flame-retardant materials.

The downsides: requires 2.4GHz WiFi only — will not connect to 5GHz networks. The 5% one-star rate includes connectivity issues (dropping off WiFi) and Alexa pairing problems. Does not support Apple HomeKit. And the schedule resets if power is lost for extended periods. But at roughly $5-8 per plug in the 4-pack, the value is exceptional for what you get.

FAQ

Does it need a hub?

No — it connects directly to your WiFi router. Download the Kasa Smart app, connect to your 2.4GHz network, and you are ready to go.

Does it work with Alexa?

Yes — works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, and IFTTT. Does NOT work with Apple HomeKit.

Can it handle a space heater?

It is rated for 15A / 1800W. Check your device's power draw — most space heaters are under 1500W and would work. Do not exceed 1800W.

What happens if the WiFi goes down?

The schedule is stored locally on the plug, so it continues to operate on schedule even without WiFi. However, you lose remote control and voice commands until WiFi reconnects.
